Ribes uva-crispa ~ Gooseberry
This product is only available in store. Visit our Nursery for more information.
Gooseberry is a thorny deciduous shrub with a compact mounding habit and lobed rich green foliage that turns yellow, red, or purple in fall. Insignificant white flowers in early or mid spring are followed by large edible berries in mid summer that have a distinct flavor that is intensly tart when unripe or green to sweet and juicy when rippened to red. Best flowering with full sun and well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Medium Maintenance. Needs regular summer and winter pruning to maximize fruit production. In wet, humid conditions, anthracnose, powdery mildew and fungal leaf spots can be troublesome. Check if your area has white pine blister rust before planting - while it won't bother the plant itself it can be a host for the disease.
